Position Overview
The Klamath County Sheriff’s Office is seeking a dedicated Medical Assistant to provide medical care and assessments to Adults in Custody at the Klamath County Jail. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring the health and safety of individuals incarcerated within the facility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct initial medical screenings and evaluations for new detainees.
  • Assess vital signs and verify medications.
  • Monitor and manage drug and alcohol withdrawal symptoms.
  • Provide treatment for minor wounds and illnesses.
  • Respond to medical emergencies within the facility.
  • Assist with ongoing care for individuals with chronic and acute medical conditions.
  • Coordinate medical transfers with local Fire/EMS and private transport services.
  • Dispense prescription and non-prescription medications as directed by medical providers.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records.
  • Order and manage medical supplies as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) preferred.
  • CPR Certification required.
  • Valid Oregon Driver’s License.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check as required by the Sheriff’s Office.

Preferred Skills & Competencies

  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to assess and respond effectively to medical situations.
  • Proficiency with medical software (Excel, Epic, Word, Publisher, OHP, Alert & CCare).
  • Ability to solve problems and adapt to various situations in a structured environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent walking, talking, and handling of medical equipment.
  • Occasional standing, sitting, reaching, kneeling, or climbing.
  • Ability to lift/move up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Must have strong visual and depth perception abilities.
