Library Assistant II - PT (Bly)
Salary: $14.16-$15.46

Job Summary: As a Library Assistant at the Bly Branch Library, you will provide essential services to the public, working under the direction of the Supervising Librarian and Branch Assistant. This role involves assisting patrons, supporting library programs, and maintaining an organized and welcoming environment for the community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities.
Note: The responsibilities listed below are representative but not exhaustive. Additional tasks may be assigned as needed.
  • Stay informed about library policies and procedures, with a focus on those relevant to branch libraries.
  • Support and assist with library programs for children, teens, and adults.
  • Provide friendly and courteous assistance to patrons, helping them locate materials, access information, and use library computers and online resources. Offer support to patrons with impairments by helping them find suitable materials.
  • Efficiently and courteously notify patrons about reserved, overdue, or damaged materials.
  • Record and maintain daily library usage statistics.
  • Manage the checkout and return process for library materials, ensure items are correctly shelved, and issue library cards to eligible patrons.
  • Collaborate with coworkers to maintain an attractive library environment, including bookshelves, desks, furnishings, and displays. Report any emergencies to the appropriate authorities.
  • Under the direction of the Branch Assistant, assist in removing outdated or worn materials from the branch collection.

Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Training Period
Over 3 months up to and including 6 months (excluding the orientation time required of a fully qualified worker to become accustomed to the special conditions of any new job).
Language Skills
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills
Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.  Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

Computer Skills
Ability to use email, web browsers, search engines, and word processing software.  Ability to learn to use new software.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Current Oregon Driver License
Physical Demands: This role requires frequent standing, walking, sitting, hand use, reaching, and effective communication. Occasionally, you may need to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or use the senses of taste or smell. The ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds is sometimes necessary. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Reasonable accommodations can be made for individuals with disabilities.
