Position Summary
:
Klamath County is seeking a dedicated Eligibility Specialist to join our Developmental Disabilities Services (DDS) team. This position plays a crucial role in completing all aspects of Klamath County's eligibility process for individuals applying for or continuing developmental disabilities services. The ideal candidate will ensure accurate and timely eligibility determinations, collaborate with the DDS Eligibility team, and maintain a high level of professionalism while adhering to state regulations and standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Complete eligibility determinations and redeterminations for individuals applying for developmental disabilities services.
  • Collaborate with the DDS Eligibility team to ensure all processes are completed on time and in accordance with Oregon Administrative Rules (OAR).
  • Participate in ongoing department and position-specific trainings, retaining certifications required by the Oregon Office of Developmental Disabilities Services (ODDS).
  • Communicate effectively with other counties regarding county-to-county transfers, maintaining compliance with OAR timelines and documentation requirements.
  • Maintain and enhance knowledge of intellectual and developmental disabilities services and complete a minimum of 20 hours of training each year.

Qualifications:
Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in behavioral science, social science, or a related field; OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in any field with one year of experience in human services; OR
  • Associate’s degree in behavioral science or a related field with two years of human services experience.

Additional Requirements:

  • Oregon Driver’s License.
  • Certified Eligibility Specialist by ODDS (or willingness to obtain certification).
  • Experience with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Understanding of eligibility requirements, developmental disabilities, and the public service system in Oregon.
  • Knowledge of psychological and functional testing for determining diagnoses.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency with Oregon Department of Human Services electronic programs and other ID/DD services software.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Experience working with individuals with complex needs, including co-occurring intellectual, developmental, and mental health challenges.

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent sitting and use of hands to handle or feel.
  • Occasionally required to walk, reach with hands and arms, and communicate effectively.
  • Must be able to lift and move up to 10 pounds occasionally.
  • Occasional driving may be required (up to 1/3 of the time).
